A New Grads Experience with Bailey Nelson

Around a year ago I met Dr Song Kim while she was a 4th year student. I was excited to give

her an opportunity to partner with Bailey Nelson. She signed a contract with us 4 months

before she graduated.

Song, I wanted to give you an opportunity to share with Optometry Students your experience.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I graduated from University of Toronto with an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Master’s

degree in Biomedical Engineering. I was involved in a multidisciplinary research on kids with

special needs at Holland Bloorview Hospital before pursuing optometry at University of

Waterloo.. Since then, I’ve been serving patients at Bailey Nelson Conestoga. I can’t say enough

how grateful I am to be part of the BN family. Every morning, I’m excited to go to work and see

my patients!

What makes you love working here?

Bailey Nelson is a supportive, open, and trusting environment that has helped me grow as a

leader in eye care. As much as the whole team has entrusted me for clinical guidance and

leadership, I naturally feel more responsible to do what’s right and what’s best for our patients

and our BN team. This motivates me to continuously self-reflect and engage in lifelong learning.

I find great satisfaction and a sense of purpose in the process. The partnership with Bailey

Nelson only compels me to think beyond the clinical frame of reference and to collaboratively

problem-solve as a team. I see myself and our team growing together in tandem. Experiencing

my personal growth as well as witnessing the growth of our team excites me tremendously.

I also love how BN allows me to advocate affordable and accessible patient care. No matter how

accurate and complete clinical diagnoses may be, if the care our patients need is non-affordable

or non-accessible, it may be less meaningful. By providing in-house frames, BN delivers high-quality yet affordable services. It brings me such great joy to see my patients expressing

their gratitude for our patient care and service.

Thank you Song for taking the time to talk today and your amazing care and support!
