Summer Student Tech/Receptionist Position

Dr. Jennifer Winn, Optometrist 13-300 Eagleson Road, Kanata, ON, K2M 1C9

Job Type: Full Time

We are a busy single doctor, non-dispensing practice and we are looking for a student to join us in a multifaceted position. The successful applicant will function as an assistant to the doctor, work directly with patients and be responsible for general clerical duties.

You will be responsible for pre-testing and basic case history. Sometimes you will also be able to do more in depth histories, refraction and some health testing when time allows and if you are comfortable with these tests. Even in cases where you are not directly doing problem-based testing, every effort will be made to include you in exams with interesting findings for you to gain experience with both ocular conditions as well as general refraction cases. We do retail contact lenses and you may be involved in fittings and insertion and removal training based on your comfort level.

Other duties will include learning our scheduling and electronic health record software to book and manage patients’ appointments, billing and insurance processing, working within our online sales portal and email/phone communications with reps and patients. Light cleaning of the office and managing contact lens trials will also be required.

French is not required but would be an asset.

We work Tuesday to Friday and every other Saturday. There is public transportation to our location, but if you are not living in Kanata, we recommend access to a vehicle to make commuting easier. We are flexible with regards to time off throughout the summer, but we do require you to be available for the majority of August to cover our regular technician's vacation. There are usually two or three weeks in August where you will be the sole technician/receptionist in the office.
