December 2021: Ravleen Khurana

Ravleen Khurana is a 3rd year student at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. Growing up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Ravleen completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of British Columbia, majoring in Biology. After graduation, she hopes to practice back in her hometown.

As an undergraduate student, Ravleen gained significant experience working with patients at a successful vision therapy and dry eye practice in Vancouver. She also organized monthly events in her spare time to educate her local community on the importance of eye examinations and the effect of systemic diseases on ocular health. These early experiences fueled her passion and inspired her to pursue a career in optometry. She is currently involved in various extracurricular activities at Pacific and in her local community. Ravleen routinely participates in outreach events to provide eye care to residents in Oregon. She became the current President of CAOS’s PUCO chapter, organizing several events for students to network with Canadian brands and generate exposure to potential resources. She has also played a pivotal role in representing Pacific University through her annual attendance at the BCDO conference.

Vision therapy and neuro rehabilitative optometry have been two of Ravleen’s favourite classes, providing inspiration for her future practice. In her free time, Ravleen enjoys playing basketball, biking, and spending time with her puppy. When she returns to BC, she hopes to further her experience and focus on opening a practice that incorporates vision therapy. Staying involved in the community continues to be of utmost importance to Ravleen, as she hopes to inspire new students interested in the field.
